APOTAC at Star Wars Fan Days (October 24-25)

Look for our tables at Star Wars Fan Days 3 in Plano, TX!

A Piece of the Action will be at Star Wars Fan Days 3 the weekend of October 24-25, 2009 . This event is held at the Plano Center, 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano, TX. Our tables will be along the back wall to the left side of the dealer room (as you enter) to the right of the stage area and a table or two to the left of the landspeeder that will be on display.

We will have over 150 carded and loose Star Wars figures, plus lots of fun collectibles. We have a variety of Domo figurines in a variety of colors, the new 1/6 scale Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine with lights and sound! WE have the official Star Trek colognes "Tiberius" and "Red Shirt". Plus super-hero action figures based on Marvel and DC Comics characters. And our show favorite Statue Gallery featuring special pricing on our entire inventory of statues and mini busts!

And don't forget to check out the Clearance Table! Lots of bargains at our last show appearance of the year!

A Great Swap Meet Weekend!

Well the big event has come and gone and I must say we had the most fun we have ever had since the first Comic, Toy, & Collectibles Swap Meet way back in July of 2006!

What started out as a tiny little show that came out of nowhere has really become more popular over the years than we could ever have imagined. This was our first two day event and in so many ways it exceeded our expectations. We estimate that between 160 and 200 people attended over the two days including many families. Our dealers were great and our attendees really seemed to enjoy the selection as well as the other fun activies we had to offer. Thank you to everyone who attended Saturday and/or Sunday and for letting us know how much you like our efforts.

PurrKayla's face painting and super-hero mask making was quite popular with the kids and she told us that she had more fun at the show. In fact she made the show! We would like to apologize that some aspects like the Comic Book Trivia contest and the William Shatner-Off fell through. This was our first attempt to mix some scheduled programming into our Swap Meets on this scale and some aspects need a little work.

We have had inquires both from those in attendence and our dealers about when and where we will have the next Swap Meet. At present we have our eye on September and hope to return to the Crowne Plaza a second time. For now plans are very tentative but there will be updates on this site as things progress.

Swap Meet Day One Update!

Don't fret if you didn't make it to the Swap Meet today, we will be in full swing on Sunday (10 AM to 3 PM).

Join the fun at APOTAC's Comic, Toy, & Collectibles Swap Meet! We had a great time on Saturday welcoming collectors of all kinds who shopped our dealers, played laser tag, or got face painting by PurrKayla. Our dealers will be here on Sunday with a lot of great comics, action figures, and other collectibles for sale, so don't miss out, there is still time to shop! And PurrKayla will be offering FREE face painting to our attendees.

And speaking of PurrKayla, she was by far the MVP of the whole Swap Meet! Our favorite local super-hero really made the first day of our first two day Swap Meet a wonderful experience for us, for our dealers, and everyone who attended. Even random folks she encountered at the hotel! 16 kids got took advantage of free face painting on Saturday, ensuring there was always a Spider-Man, Wolverine, or Hulk on hand. Thank you for everything PurrKayla!

We will be promoting the Comic, Toy, & Collectibles Swap Meet 6 at the event, a great opportunity to pick up your half-price admission flyers while you are there.
Planning to attend the Swap Meet? We will have an opportunity for one lucky attendee to receive three raffle tickets for the raffles held at the Swap Meet on July 25 and 26 in Addison. Every paid admission to the Swap Meet gets one raffle ticket and additional tickets will be available at the door for 50 cents each. You could get a few extra chances just by attending the MovieGeekFeed event!

Here are details on the event and a few APOTAC announcements:

The Uptown Theater (Grand Prairie) and Movie Geek Feed have a treat for you.! On Thursday, July 23rd, for the first time in the DFW area, you can see Fanboys the way it was meant to be seen – on the big-screen! This is all part of a celebration of two noteworthy events – the 1st Anniversary of MovieGeekFeed.com and the 10th Anniversary of Star Wars – Episode I: The Phantom Menace. What better way to celebrate than by seeing an all-digital screening of Episode I AND the movie that it helped inspire – Fanboys. Tickets for the event are $10.00 and one canned good per person when you arrive at the theater that goes to the Grand Prairie Food & Clothing Co-op.

The Uptown Theater is in downtown Grand Prairie, TX at 120 East Main Street, Grand Prairie, Texas, 75050. Doors open at 6PM.

But there is more! A Piece of the Action Collectibles will be there selling lots of cool Star Wars and Star Trek collectibles! Dozens of Star Wars action figures as low as $4.00 each! With several activities now lined up we will have a schedule of events for Saturday and Sunday on the website very soon. As announced today PurrKayla will be hosting some activities for the kids. Also we are pleased to announce The Wrath of the William Shatner-Off on Saturday and the Attack of the Anakin Skywalker Whine-Off on Sunday! Both are sequels to contests held at MovieGeekFeed.com events in Grand Prairie. There will be cool prizes for our winners of both events.

Swap Meet Guest Update!

APOTAC's favorite super-hero PurrKayla has some great activities planned for the kids!
PurrKayla was a hopeful for Who Wants To Be a Super-Hero? and won Super Hero Sunday at All-Con this year! She is a long time friend of the Swap Meet and will be on hand all weekend to meet and greet kids of all ages. But there is more!

Join PurrKayla for her talk on what it takes to be a super-hero followed by a great opportunity for kids to create their own super-hero masks! This is a free presentation courtesy of PurrKayla! Kids can decorate their own masks and create their own super-hero persona begining at 12 PM on Saturday!

After the Super-Hero presentation she will be offering free face painting for the kids in attendence! Don't miss out as she is quite the accomplished face painter offering super-hero and (of course) animal face paint designs! Free face painting will also be available on Sunday!

Luckily I am familiar enough with many of our dealers to write up profiles for them. And since we would like to familiarize everyone with "Who to Know at the Show!", so here goes...

Jason Wagnon - Jason made his show dealer debut at the Comic, Toy, & Collectibles Swap Meet 5 in Grand Prairie last year. Since then he has been seen at the Sci-Fi Expo/Dallas Comic Con, Wizard World Texas, and other shows. We are pleased to have him back for the latest Swap Meet! Jason will be bringing a massive selection of super-hero toys of all kinds! Both loose and carded! Look for Marvel Legends, DC Direct, Pocket Super Heroes, Super Hero Squad, DC Heroes, DC Universe, and other great figures. He usually has several of the "Build-a-Figure" figures from Marvel and DC on hand as well.

Man, does The Uptown Theater and Movie Geek Feed have a treat for you. On Thursday, July 23rd, for the first time in the DFW area, you can see Fanboys the way it was meant to be seen – on the big-screen! For whatever reason, when the movie was released in it’s limited theatrical run, the DFW got the shaft. Fanboys NEVER played in the theaters here. July 23rd is our way of rectifying that situation and celebrating two noteworthy events – the 1st Anniversary of MovieGeekFeed.com and the 10th Anniversary of Star Wars – Episode I: The Phantom Menace. What better way to celebrate than by seeing an all-digital screening of Episode I AND the movie that it helped inspire – Fanboys.

There will, of course, be contests and giveaways. We also expect all Star Wars fans to come out dressed in their favorite character costume. Show DFW who the REAL Fan boys AND girls do it!!!

Tickets for the event will go on sale here on Monday, July 6th. They are $10.00 and one canned good per person when you arrive at the theater that goes to the Grand Prairie Food & Clothing Co-op.

The Uptown Theater is in downtown Grand Prairie, TX at 120 East Main Street, Grand Prairie, Texas, 75050.

Doors open at 6PM.

The 501st Star Garrison (Lucasfilm Limited's ONLY official costume club) will be there, meeting and greeting people as they arrive. They will have a picture booth where attendees will be able to get photos taken with Star Wars characters, such as a Stormtrooper, Biker Trooper, Imperial Guards, Slave Leia, and more to be announced. You can even have your picture taken in Imperial binders and look locked up. They will also be conducting a contest and giving away the awards.

A Piece of the Action will also be in attendance and conducting an "Anakin Skywalker Whine-off" Contest. Think you have what it takes to whine like the big-baby-would-be-Sith-lord? Well, you can prove it here and win prizes.

There will also be a few vendors at the event selling Star Wars merchandise.

The Swap Meet has a new home for July!

As promised, a big announcement about the July Swap Meet!

We are pleased to announce our very first ever TWO DAY event! The next Comic, Toy, & Collectibles Swap Meet will be held over the weekend of July 25-26, 2009. And we have a brand new home this outing, the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Additon, TX! If you have attended All-Con or FenCon in the last couple of years then you know the Crowne Plaza. We are very excited to host our first hotel show!

We are in the process of arranging events and guests for the show weekend. It is slow going for now but I hope to have some announcements very soon. For now I want to let everyone know that freind of APOTAC and the Swap Meet's very own resident super-hero PurrKayla will be joining us all weekend! Our favorite local hero has offered to provide some really great programming for us which will be officially announced in the next few days. PurrKayla tried out for Who Wants to Be a Super-Hero and has been a local convention presence ever since. Earlier this year she took the top prize in All-Con's "Super-Hero Sunday" so be sure to congratulate her when you see her in the halls at the Swap Meet! We are honored to have her back with us again!

Cancellation Notice; APOTAC's Comic, Toy, & Collectibles Swap Meet

Having previously announced officially on this site the next Comic, Toy, & Collectibles Swap Meet I regret to have to announce its cancellation. A number of factors including up front expenses and a lack of available vendors for this outing have left us with no choice but to cancel.

The Comic, Toy, and Collectibles Swap Meet exists as a low-cost venue for professional and hobby show dealers as well as a periodic resource for collectors of all kinds. Without the support of a solid dealer base it simply cannot exist. We sincerly hope that we can schedule the Comic, Toy, and Collectibles Swap Meet 6 later this year. And we apologize for the necessity of this cancellation.

I want to personally thank Todd and All-Con for their continued support of our efforts. And Eric for his help in making this web page a reality. While some aspects came together perfectly, others have fallen short and it was no economicly feasable to move forward at this time.

We look forward to seeing everyone at Imagicon in Abilene and the Sci-Fi Expo in Richardson.

A Long Overdue Start!

A Piece of the Action Collectibles is proud to at last have a workable, updtated web presence! Thank you to Eric for helping arrange things and get this off the ground. The site will be more developed over the next few weeks. For the time being I really needed some place for folks to go to see up to date information on our upcoming Swap Meet in May. I would also like to thank Todd for getting us our first website and keeping it going despite the lack of attention I was able to give it at the time. I can't thank him enough.

Now that we are here expect things to only get better. We will soon have a viable store, links to favorite websites, and news on activities of fan interest. We will be at All-Con 2009 in Addison, TX the weekend of March 13-15, 2009. We will not be dealers this year but will again be providing some of the content including game shows and movie events! Over the next few weeks this site will take shape as the one-stop portal to all of the various aspects of APOTAC. Our 2009 convention schedule (in the Convention Awareness Project section) will include both the Swap Meet dates as well as listings of every convention of fan interest in Texas that we are can find. This section will be updated regularly as new shows are announced. And if APOTAC will be selling at a show you will be able to tell from the listings here!

In addition we will soon be adding our long-awaited APOTAC Online Store! If you miss us at a convention or just had to wait for that great collectible at our table, this will be your second chance at some great action figures, HeroClix, toys, and other collectibles! Or your first shot at our many new arrivals (updated regularly).
